Here are the 5 top reasons for people don't apply for scholarships; And why you still apply anyway!

Reason #1. I'm not smart enough

So what? Scholarships AREN'T awarded just based on your grades or SAT score. There are scholarships out there based on anything from extracurricular involvement and leadership to financial needs.

There are scholarships you can get just by virtue of belonging to a certain race or minority group. Not having straight A's is NO excuse for not applying to scholarships, you can and should look for scholarships who value non-academic criteria just as much as academic ones.

Reason #2. Nobody gives out money for nothing- there's got to be a catch

Reason #3. I'm too busy with other stuff

Too busy to earn money that can get you through college? Get real. Yeah, scholarships take time and work. But some scholarships are simpler than others. Sure, sometimes you have to get 5 recommendation letters, write a couple of essays and fill out a dozen forms. But other times you just to fill up an online application and you're in. There are even automatic entrance scholarships in some colleges you don't have to apply for.

And really, it pays off. The harder you work, the better are your chances at scoring a great scholarship and getting a lot of money. So unless you have a part time job, you're studying for your SAT and you're in 3 school clubs all at the same time, find a few minutes a day to work on scholarship applications.

Reason #4. I can always apply later if I have to

Yeah, it's right. You can.

But consider this- most scholarships are offered to undergrad applicants. You won't have as many options going into second or third year as you'll have now. Plus, if you think you're busy now at high school, you'll have considerably less time balancing life and studies at college.

Do it now, not later. If you want to make sure you get the money, if you want to have as much chance of getting that scholarship money as you can, start applying early, don't miss any deadlines, and apply to as many scholarships as you're eligible for. There usually isn't a limit to how many scholarships you can win, so make the most of your time by applying NOW.

Reason #5. I'll never win anyway, why bother?

How do you know you won't win? Seriously, there's always a chance.

If you do your best, focus on your strengths, submit a smashing essay and get good recommendations, you just might make it. Check out these tips that'll help you create a successful application. If you're confident in your abilities and apply for those scholarships that aren't way over your head and where you fit all the requirements and criteria.

Some small scholarships from organizations and institutes go unclaimed every year because nobody applies, or nobody fits the criteria. If you look hard enough you may find this sort of scholarship, and where there's only a very few applicants, you have a great chance of winning. It's only a matter of trying.
